Although utilizing the services of competent and reliable moving companies can save you lots of hassles and stress that goes with moving, there might be instances where you would not need those services at all. However though, even if you opt to move your items by yourself because they are just a few ones anyway, you might have the need to use some few pieces of moving blankets for such undertaking. Hence, you might opt to buy one for your own uses especially if you move a lot with your few pieces of furniture. With the numerous different brands and types of moving blankets around, it could be quite cumbersome to pick which one to buy. But please keep in mind that not all blankets are made equal. Some can be more expensive and some can be less durable and some might be less attractive to look at. With that in mind, it might be of nice help if we would tackle some few basic things that one should look for should the need to buy one arises.
Material Composition
If one would take a quick glance at the different moving blankets on display, one could instinctively see that they are made of fabric. However, if we would take a closer look and scrutinize, we would then see the difference. Polyester, non-woven, cotton, mixed fabrics are the most common types of fabrics used in these blankets. Polyester is known to be smooth and soft yet very durable. Non-woven fabrics are those plain cloths you can see in many typical dresses. Their durability is not good enough; hence, they are only good for dust and stain protection. Cotton fabrics are very soft to the touch much like the feel of pure cotton. They are also durable but they do not possess the kind of smoothness and glittery like looks of polyester fabrics. Even though they look a bit rough, they can provide a good grip at the handler’s perspective because they do not slip much. Mixed fabrics are those that have a mixture of polyester and cotton.
Colors and Sizes
When it comes to sizes, the size you would spend your money for would depend upon your usage. If you’ve got some large items to move then you are better off with larger moving blankets although they may cost more than their smaller sized counterparts. With the vast arrays of colors lined up in various brands of blankets for moving, preferences would vary according to your color preference. But many have preferred dark colored blankets because the stains or dirt, if any, will not get so visible. In some folks, they also prefer to have dual colored blankets for the reason that it would be easy to determine which side is the interior and which one is the exterior. All in all, it would just boil down to your color preference actually.
Padding Material
A padded moving blanket usually have a stitched or quilted fabric surface. While the quilt patterns may not be that important, what should count the most is the kind of padding material used in the blanket. Padding materials are added for cushioning purposes. That is, the thicker and higher quality padding materials stuffed in the blanket, the greater is the capability of the blanket to handle bumps from blunt objects that may come in contact with the delicate items during their transport. Cotton padding or stuffing material is the most preferred. There may be some other padding used such as foam.
